Madalynn McKelvey, a 2014 Ottumwa High School graduate, will return to her hometown Saturday, March 19, to perform with the Wartburg Choir.

The concert, at Willard Street United Methodist Church, 175 N. Willard St., begins at 7 p.m. The Fairfield High School Concert Choir, under the direction of Zach Reiter, also will perform.

“The thing that has made my Wartburg experience truly amazing has been being a part of the Wartburg Choir,” said McKelvey, an engineering science and mathematics major. “I am very excited to share our music with my family and friends in the Ottumwa area.”

The Wartburg Choir, under the direction of Lee Nelson, will perform a wide range of music that explores love through a variety of lenses.

“Some songs will be familiar and others will be new but they all carry an important message of love, respect and affection that can influence how we live our lives,” Nelson said.

The concert will include music by classical composers such as J.S Bach, Felix Mendelssohn and William Byrd as well as music by contemporary composers like Ola Gjeilo, Eric Whitacre, Jake Runestad and Stacey Gibbs.

The internationally acclaimed Wartburg Choir performs sacred music from all historical periods and styles. Choir members are chosen by audition and represent most academic disciplines on campus. The choir makes annual concert tours throughout the United States and travels abroad every three years during the college’s one-month May Term.

Wartburg College is a selective liberal arts college of the Lutheran Church (ELCA), internationally recognized for community engagement. The college’s 1,537 students come from 55 countries and 28 U.S. states.
