A group that will headline the 2013 Wartburg College Trumpet Festival is gaining nationwide exposure with the recent release of the movie “Lincoln.”

The Kentucky Baroque Trumpets, performing as President Lincoln’s Own, are featured in the Steven Spielberg film starring Daniel Day Lewis and Sally Field. They will appear March 21-22 at the Wartburg Trumpet Festival.

The group received additional exposure at a Nov. 19 ceremony at Gettysburg, where President Lincoln’s Own performed and Spielberg spoke. The event commemorated the 149th anniversary of President Lincoln’s delivery of the Gettysburg Address.

“We look forward to introducing high school and college students and the community to the Kentucky Baroque Brass and their virtuosity in performing on both historic and modern brass instruments,” said Dr. Scott Muntefering, a member of the Wartburg music faculty who organizes the annual festival. A March 21 recital and a March 22 Trumpet Festival Finale Concert will feature the guest artists.

Founded in 2005 by Don Johnson, the Kentucky Baroque Trumpets won the Historic Ensemble Division at the 2007 National Trumpet Competition and appear in concert and at Civil War events throughout the country.
