Wartburg College’s Castle Singers will turn back the clock for their second annual Jazz After Dark concert Friday, Oct. 19.

The Centennial Oaks event hall will take on the feel of a Prohibition-era jazz club as the Castle Singers perform with the Knightliters jazz band at the 11 p.m. concert, which follows campus Homecoming activities. Bar services and cigars for sale will be available. The public is invited to attend.

“We are a jazz choir but we don’t have a lot of true, jazz club-style events,” said Castle Singers president Ian Bee ‘12, Monona. “This is our attempt to create that in Waverly.”

The Castle Singers, directed by Dr. Jane Andrews, professor of music, have been a fixture on the Wartburg campus since 1950, performing vocal jazz accompanied by a rhythm section. Allan Jacobson directs the Knightliters.

The event has been moved to a larger hall at Centennial Oaks to accommodate a Homecoming audience expected to include past ensemble members.

“We always want alumni to show up at the event and do a solo if they want,” Bee said. “We do a traditional song that is a bonding performance between the current and past members.”
