James and Sylvia Streufert

James Streufert will be the featured artist at Wartburg College’s Bach’s Lunch organ series recital on Friday, Nov. 8.

A free lecture will begin at noon in the Wartburg Chapel Commons, followed by a recital at 12:30 p.m. in the Wartburg Chapel sanctuary. Streufert’s selections will include three Baroque compositions and two contemporary settings. He will be joined by his wife, Sylvia Streufert, for an organ duet of concert variations on “Auld Lang Syne.”

James Streufert earned degrees in church music from St. Olaf College and Westminster Choir College. He is a lifelong church musician, having served parishes in New Jersey, Minnesota, Illinois and Iowa. He has also worked at Berghaus Pipe Organ Builders in Illinois and recently retired after 17 years with Dobson Pipe Organ Builders in Lake City, Iowa.

Sylvia Streufert studied church music at Wittenberg University, the Berliner Kirchenmusikschule in Berlin, Germany and Westminster Choir College. She has served as organist and taught piano in Ohio, New Jersey, Illinois, Minnesota and Iowa.
