Saint Elizabeth Week award recipients announced

Kourtney Lilke, Anna Askegaard and Hailey Franzen received the Saint Elizabeth Award for Service, which recognizes students who exemplify a commitment to service and desire to live a life that embodies the Wartburg mission.
Lilke, a senior business administration major, has served through SMART, Students for Peace and Justice, Manna, Ambassadors, Suicide Awareness for Everyone and Wartburg College Service Trips.
Askegaard, a senior religion and sociology major, is the student director of Wartburg College Service Trips, Blankets of Love coordinator and a respite foster care provider. She has led service efforts for Wartburg College Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society and Spiritual Life & Campus Ministry.
Franzen, a junior music education major, was recognized for her willingness to help other students in need and putting others before herself.
Jenna Haglund, Whitney Baker and Daniel Kittle received the Pastor Larry Trachte Award for Service, given to faculty or staff who embody his enthusiasm, support, dedication and overall commitment to Wartburg’s mission of service. Trachte is a Wartburg graduate and former campus pastor.
Haglund, visiting assistant professor of social work, recently created IMPower, a mentoring program that builds self-esteem and confidence in the next generation of young women.
Baker, area coordinator of residential life, was responsible for organizing and mobilizing more than 300 volunteers during the flood this fall.
Kittle, vice president for student life and dean of students, was recognized for his efforts to connect with students through challenges that help him experience campus life from their perspective.
