Schmitz to join Wartburg College’s Board of Regents

Schmitz, who graduated with a degree in accounting and business administration, went on to earn a master’s degree and doctorate in education from Iowa State University. He also received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Wartburg in 2007.
Schmitz has served in administrative roles with the Waterloo school district, Hawkeye Community College and VGM. After retiring, he launched Creating Value Together, which provides operational systems and services along with customized administrative support functions to senior care providers.
He is currently treasurer for the Western Home Community Board and serves as past chair for the MercyOne Northeast Iowa Board of Directors. At Wartburg, Schmitz was co-chair of the Focus on the Future task force on regional partnerships, served on the national committee for the Transforming Tomorrow fundraising campaign and was chair of the President’s Advisory Council.
The Wartburg Board of Regents works with the president to provide fiduciary leadership for the college and is guided by the mission of the institution.
