The Oak Grove Concert Choir will provide a concert of sacred music at Wartburg College Saturday, April 9.
The 4 p.m. concert in Wartburg Chapel will include old hymn favorites like F. Melius Christiansen’s “Beautiful Savior,” newer compositions like Ola Gjeilo’s “Northern Lights” as well as selections by composers Antonio Lotti, Stephen Paulus and Frank Ticheli.
The choir also will sing “The Lord’s Peace,” an original choral a cappella written by their director, Aaron Zinter.
The Wartburg Choir will sing “O Day Full of Grace” by F. Melius Christiansen and “Daniel, Servant of the Lord” by Stacey V. Gibbs. They will join the Oak Grove choir for “Set Down Servant” by Robert Shaw and “Set Me as a Seal” by René Clausen.
Oak Grove Lutheran School is in its 110th year of integrating Christian faith and learning in Fargo, N.D. The 42-voice Concert Choir consists of juniors and seniors selected by audition. There also is a 12-member Madrigal Ensemble within the choir. The choir has performed for numerous regional, state and national conventions. The 1995 choir was designated as “The Governor’s Choir” for the state of North Dakota.
Zinter also conducts the Chapel Choir, Carolers and Madrigal Singers and teaches Advanced Placement music theory, middle school music, and voice and guitar lessons. He earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from Concordia College and a master’s degree in choral conducting from Illinois State University. He has published compositions with Abingdon Press and sings with Chanson, a professional a cappella ensemble. Zinter is also the conductor of the Master Chorale of Fargo-Moorhead.
The internationally acclaimed Wartburg Choir performs sacred music from all historical periods and styles. Choir members are chosen by audition and represent most academic disciplines on campus. The choir makes annual concert tours throughout the United States and travels abroad every three years during the college’s one-month May Term.
