The Wartburg Forensics speech and debate team recently placed third in the limited entry sweepstakes division at the annual Vocal Viking Forensics Tournament hosted by Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minnesota.

The Wartburg team included juniors Andrew Tubbs, music applied; Jessica Donahue, writing and communication arts; and Lindokuhle Simelane, economics and business administration. The group competed against teams from 20 schools in a six-state region competed.

“The students did an amazing job, especially among such a large field of schools. Their dedication really paid off this weekend,” said David Brennan, assistant director of forensics.

Individual honors include:

  • Donahue and Tubbs, third place, Duo Interpretation
  • Tubbs, fourth place, After-Dinner Speaking
  • Lindokuhle Simelane, fifth place, Persuasive Speaking



The Knights will travel to Marshall, Minnesota, for the Valley Forensics Tournament Nov. 7.
