A program highlighting the history of the Iowa courts will commemorate Constitution Day at Wartburg College Tuesday, Sept. 30.

“Blazing a Trail: Iowa Courts Lead the Way” begins at 11:30 a.m. in McCaskey Lyceum in Saemann Student Center.

Judge Thomas Bower of the Iowa Court of Appeals will explain important cases in state history and discuss the work of the court today. Early Iowa courts were called upon to decide important social and political issues that were remarkable in their foresight.

The audience will have a chance to ask questions at the conclusion.

Congressional legislation passed in 2005 requires institutions of higher education receiving support from the federal government to participate in an activity recognizing Constitution Day, Sept. 17, the date the U.S. Constitution was ratified in 1787. Wartburg has developed programs focusing on timely topics of civic interest as an opportunity to serve the Wartburg and Cedar Valley communities.
