Wartburg College’s fall enrollment is 1,747 — including 521 new students.

First-year enrollment is consistent with the classes entering in 2011 (510), 2010 (484), 2009 (480) and 2008 (514).

Total enrollment is down from 1,805 following the college’s largest graduating class ever of 402 in 2011-12 — with 93 percent earning degrees in four years or less, including 3 percent in three years.

Of the incoming first-year students, 84 percent were in the top half of their high school graduating classes, up from 80 percent in the 2011-12 academic year.

International student enrollment increased to 143 from 129 last year, now accounting for 8 percent of total enrollment.

The percentage of self-reporting Lutheran students is virtually unchanged at 34 percent, including 24 percent who belong to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Wartburg also announced that the graduating Class of 2012 had set records for studying abroad (53 percent) and liberal arts majors (52 percent).
