David Baskeyfield, winner of the coveted first prize at the 2011 St. Albans International Organ Festival in England, will perform at Wartburg College Sunday, Oct. 7.
Baskeyfield, who launched his career in 2010 with an impressive string of awards at prestigious competitions, will give his recital at 4 p.m. in the Wartburg Chapel.
“I heard David Baskeyfield in concert this past summer, and he is a wonderful performer and improviser,” said Dr. Karen Black, Wartburg professor or music and college organist. “I know it will be a fabulous concert. He has an interest in theater organ as well as the standard literature.”
Baskeyfield won first prize at the 2010 Miami International Organ and the Los Angeles-area Mader Memorial Organ competitions. In 2011 he took first prizes at the Rodland (N.J.) competition and the American Guild of Organists national competition in organ improvisation and second prize at the Dublin International Organ competition.
Baskeyfield is currently a doctoral student at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. He previously was an organ scholar at Oxford University’s St. John’s College in England.
