ESL ENDORSEMENT

Wartburg now offers an English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement for undergraduate students as well as current teachers in the field. The ESL endorsement is a set of courses, required to teach English as a second language in kindergarten and grades one through twelve. 

ESL is a high-demand subject of instruction that continues to experience growth in schools across the country. ESL is considered one of the five main teacher shortage areas in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Education. Loan forgiveness programs are available for teachers in shortage areas.

ENROLLMENT
Enrollment in the ESL endorsement courses is open to anyone who has met the pre-requisites for each specific course. The submission of college transcripts will be required to confirm completion of the pre-requisites. To be licensed in PreK-12 ESL, you must have completed a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university.

The unit of academic credit at Wartburg is a course credit. The ESL endorsement consists of six-course credits. The recommended equivalency: 1.0 course credit = 3.5 semester hours.
The cost for 21 semester hours or six-course credits is $12,120.
