Season tickets for the 2012-13 Wartburg College Artist Series with four brilliant acts from Estes to Einstein will go on sale Monday, July 9.

World-renowned bass baritone Simon Estes will lead off the series with a benefit concert, followed by Broadway musical “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” actor Ed Metzger’s one-man “Albert Einstein” tribute and the family-oriented Duttons, former finalists on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.”

Season tickets range from $66 to $100 for adults — a 20 percent savings compared to individual performance prices. Student tickets (K-12) are $10 per performance.

Estes, distinguished professor and artist-in-residence at Wartburg, will be the featured artist during his “Roots and Wings” concert Sunday, Oct. 14, at 3 p.m. The lineup also includes the Wartburg Choir, individual Wartburg students and a Bremer County high school honor choir.

The concert, sponsored by State Bank & Trust, will celebrate Estes’ Iowa roots and his desire to provide scholarships (“Wings”) through the Simon Estes Iowa Educational Foundation to young artists during his tour of the state’s 99 counties.

“Ain’t Misbehavin’” on Tuesday, Jan. 29, honors the black musicians of the 1920-30s Harlem Renaissance. The bawdy, fast-paced musical, which ran for nearly four years on Broadway, features a five-member cast and six-piece band performing 30 show-stopping “Fats” Waller songs along with dance numbers and costumes from the era.

Metzger brings “Albert Einstein: The Practical Bohemian” to life on Thursday, March 14 — Einstein’s 134th birthday. Metzger, whose career has included numerous film, TV and stage roles, portrays the brilliant, but absent-minded Einstein and his trials and tribulations as a father, pacifist, womanizer, philosopher and humorist. An audience “talk back” will follow.

The 15-member Duttons, a three-generation family act, will feature a wide array of musical genres, dancing, and comedy Thursday, April 4. Named by critics as “Branson’s Best Show,” the Duttons play everything from bluegrass to classical on any number of instruments — violin, guitar, bass, viola, banjo, mandolin, keyboard, harmonica and drums among others.

All performances are in Neumann Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. with buffet dinners available beforehand, except for Estes’ afternoon concert.

The ticket office will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday at the information center in Saemann Student Center, 319-352-8691. Tickets also may be purchased online at www.wartburg.edu/artist.

Individual performance tickets will be available July 23 with ticket office hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
