The Wartburg College Symphonic Band and Flute Choir will put on a holiday concert Thursday, Dec. 3.

The free concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Bachman Fine Arts Center’s Band Hall.

The Symphonic Band will perform “Star of Wonder” arranged by James Swearingen, “Ukrainian Bell Carol” arranged by Philip Sparke, “Greensleeves” by Alfred Reed and “Carol Triptych” by Pierre La Plante.

Jeanne Edson, a senior in the Symphonic Band, is looking forward to the holiday concert because the format differs from other performances.

“The holiday concert is just as much fun for us as it is for the audience members as we get the chance to play some classic Christmas songs and wear ugly Christmas sweaters,” Edson said.

The Flute Choir will perform “Up on the Housetop” by B. R. Hanby, “In the Bleak Midwinter” by Gustav Holst and “Christmas Fantasy” by Ricky Lombardo.

The Symphonic Band is an auditioned group under the direction of Scott Muntefering, the Eugene and Ruth Drape Distinguished Professor of Music Education. Dominique Cawley, senior lecturer of flute and music theory, leads the Flute Choir.
