Charles Schmidt will be the featured performer at Wartburg College’s Fall Piano Concert Series Sunday, Oct. 18.

Schmidt, an assistant professor in music at Augustana (Illinois) College, will perform at 2 p.m. in Bachman Fine Arts Center’s Orchestra Hall. The concert will include selections by Franz Liszt and Robert Schumann. A reception will follow the free performance.

“Charles Schmidt plays with remarkable sensitivity and beautiful tone,” said Ted Reuter, professor of piano and the concert series coordinator.

Schmidt has given recitals and taught master classes throughout the United States. He also has worked as an accompanist and musical director in opera and musical theater.

Reuter and his wife, Laurie Braaten-Reuter, started the series to celebrate the rebuilt 1918 Steinway grand piano they donated to the college in memory of Margaret Johnson, Reuter’s aunt and a longtime supporter of the arts.

The series concludes Sunday, Nov. 22, with Sean Botkin, associate professor of piano at the University of Northern Iowa.
