Students using the VO2 equipment for research in a lab

In exercise science, you’ll start with the same courses as our renowned biology program before branching out into human nutrition, advanced exercise physiology, exercise testing and prescription, and kinesiology using some of the best research equipment around.

Graduates can go on to study athletic training or physical therapy in graduate school, attend nursing or medical school, or further study one of the core areas in exercise science. Those seeking immediate entry into the workforce can find opportunities in commercial, community, corporate, and clinical health-fitness facilities.

A degree in kinesiology will prepare you for careers related to human movement, health, and physical performance. This foundation equips you for roles in fitness training, physical therapy, athletic coaching, rehabilitation, and wellness promotion. Additionally, it provides a strong base for those pursuing advanced studies in healthcare fields such as occupational therapy, chiropractic care, or medicine.

A physical education major will prepare you to teach and coach in elementary and secondary schools. Wartburg offers a K-12 teaching certification program in physical education and a 7-12 endorsement in health. A 14-week student teaching experience takes place in local schools with a seven-week placement in elementary PE and a seven-week placement in secondary PE with the possibility of teaching in a health class.
