Hannah Slater, Allie Spredemann and Aubrie Pruess, all Wartburg College students majoring in education, recently presented “Advocacy in Action” at the Iowa Association for the Education of Young Children’s Fall Institute.
Their presentation emphasized the importance of being an advocate for students and families to ensure all children have access to high-quality education.
“We provided ways for educators to find their local and federal legislators and representatives, how to contact them and how to promote advocacy in education,” said Pruess, a senior from Clarence.
The group worked with Brandy Smith, assistant professor of education, who had taught a lesson in her childhood education class on a similar topic that the students believed needed to be shared with others.
“She has been such an inspiring and supportive leader throughout the entire process,” said Slater, a senior from Denison.
The Iowa Association for the Education of Young Children is a professional organization that connects and supports early childhood educators and advocates for high-quality early learning experiences for all children in Iowa. More than 700 early childhood professionals attended the two-day conference focused on critical early childhood issues.
“This organization helps you stay informed about current practices and offers opportunities to strengthen your professional skills and grow in your career,” said Spredemann, a senior from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.
