Ali Parkhurst, editor-in-chief of The Wartburg Trumpet, won a Best of SNO award for her story “Rewa Chababo: Leaving a Mark.”
This marks Parkhurst’s fifth Best of SNO award and the first for The Wartburg Trumpet. Her previous awards recognized her work at Waterloo West High School, where she wrote for The Wahawk Insider and was the yearbook editor.
Parkhurst’s winning submission featured Chababo, a senior on the women’s wrestling team and the program’s first top-three finisher at the NCAA Women’s Wrestling Championship.
“Earning the Best of SNO award has been so exciting, but mostly because of the enthusiasm of the entire Trumpet staff,” said Parkhurst, of Waterloo. “We have put a lot of work into growing the program. I think this shows that hard work paying off for us all.”
Parkhurst, who is in her second year at Wartburg, is majoring in sports media, multimedia journalism and public relations/strategic communication. This is her first year serving as the editor-in-chief of The Wartburg Trumpet and her second year on staff.
The Best of Sno, hosted by Student Newspapers Online, is a national recognition given daily to a select number of news articles submitted to the news platform. During the 2024-2025 academic year, more than 15,000 articles were submitted with only 2,300 receiving Best of SNO honors.
