Samantha Pfab Hospodarsky is always looking out for those who might otherwise fall through the cracks.
After graduating from Wartburg with a degree in religion, Pfab Hospodarsky served in multiple roles here before becoming the assistant director of student success and retention for the University of Northern Iowa — where she quickly identified a gap in support for incoming transfer students. To address that gap, she created innovative new programming to engage spring semester transfer students and re-engage the student body at large after semester break.
“Sam is an instrumental leader in supporting the academic success and personal growth of students,” wrote Jesús Lizárraga Estrada, one of Pfab Hospodarsky’s nominators. “She has worked tirelessly to create spaces where faith can be lived out through action, advocating for marginalized groups and ensuring that the values of equity, justice, and inclusion are actively pursued.”
Pfab Hospodarsky demonstrates those value through her oversight of UNI’s Success Coaching program, a peer-to-peer initiative to support students on academic alert or probation; her service on numerous university committees, including one focused on the success of low-income students; and her work on the Racial Equity Committee at her church to advocate for social justice and inclusivity in her congregation.
“Her dedication to making a positive impact on her community is a powerful testament to her character and leadership,” wrote Josh Bulten, another of Pfab Hospodarsky’s nominators. “She is a dedicated servant-leader who advocates for underrepresented populations and cares deeply for those around her.”
“I am continually amazed by her ability to elevate those around her, and I am grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with her,” wrote Lizárraga Estrada.
For her commitment to service and mentorship of those around her, the Wartburg College Alumni Board is pleased to present a 2026 Young Alumni Award to Samantha Pfab Hospodarsky ’20.
