Ali Parkhurst, The Wartburg Trumpet’s editor in chief, will participate in a panel discussion about community news engagement at the annual Iowa College Media Association conference Feb. 4 in Des Moines.
“Being selected to be part of this panel is an honor. It is one of the many opportunities I have had while working with the student media organizations here at Wartburg,” said Parkhurst, a senior majoring in sports media and public relations. “I am excited to not only share my experiences but also learn from other students and professionals in the journalism field.”
The panel will explore how collegiate news connects with the communities their colleges and universities are located in. Parkhurst will be joined by Erin Jordan, associate professor of practice in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Iowa.
Parkhurst has served as the school newspaper’s editor in chief for two years and has been an active member of the staff for four years. As a high school student at Waterloo West High, Parkhurst won the 2024 Journalist of the Year from the Iowa High School Press Association.
