Why did you join the military: I joined the military after my father and my grandpa to help me financially through school and help me further my career in the medical field.
What has been the biggest benefit or best military experience for you: The opportunities, the people, and the money. I’ve met some amazing people I never would have met otherwise and have had the opportunity to do things I never would have done. Though I’m relatively low ranking right now, the money is still very helpful and takes a large portion off of my tuition with tuition assistance.
Why did you choose Wartburg: I chose Wartburg for the science program along with the size. I knew I wanted to choose a smaller school, and the science program here really helped make that choice.
How do you balance your school obligations with your military duties: I’m on something called drill status, so it’s relatively easy. Drill status lets me attend school regularly and only requires me to come in about one weekend a month and 2 weeks in the summer.
Who at Wartburg has helped you succeed in college: Definitely the professors in the science department. They’ve all been very helpful and most importantly very open to anything I need help with.
What are you looking forward to most this year: I’m looking forward to gaining more experience in the lab and with lab equipment along with volunteering at Waverly Health Center. Since I didn’t get the chance to be super involved last year, I wanted to take that opportunity now to do so.
What are your plans after college: I plan to attend medical school and enroll in the Guard’s medical program. I’ll transfer to the base in that specific state and continue with my drill status there.
