Wartburg College will host Ateneo, the choir from Palacký University in Olomouc, Czech Republic, at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5, in the Wartburg Chapel.
The concert is free and open to the public and provides a new opportunity for the Wartburg and Waverly communities to embrace culture through music.
“Their program will include Czech folk songs and choral works, as well as classical standards and contemporary hits like Coldplay’s ‘Viva la Vida’ and Toto’s ‘Africa,’ so it promises to be a fun and diverse concert,” said Kylie Gougler, Wartburg visiting assistant professor of music.
Ateneo is visiting Waverly as part of its U.S. tour. Gougler, who works closely with the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library in Cedar Rapids on music projects, said the organization reached out to her about the collaboration. In addition to the concert, Wartburg Choir students will have the opportunity to work with the musicians during a rehearsal earlier in the day.
“Our students may not have another opportunity to hear, specifically, a Czech choir, so allowing them to experience more with this opportunity allows for a singular experience that only Wartburg can offer,” Gougler said.
