Haylee DeLong and Carson Stetter will deliver the student messages at Wartburg College Commencement on Saturday, May 23.
Based on nominations from their peers and in consultation with faculty and staff, Wartburg College President Rebecca Ehretsman invited the seniors to give remarks on behalf of the Class of 2026. They will speak at the ceremony beginning at 2 p.m. in the Hoover Fieldhouse & Track in the Ohle Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center.
DeLong, a biology major, and Stetter, a psychology major, will use the next year to apply to medical school and graduate school, respectively.
As student body vice president during the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years, DeLong worked with the Student Senate executive team and Outfly committee to plan and execute Outfly. She also led the campaigning and elections process for Student Senate and was the Dance Marathon executive director during that same time.
She also was a member of Beta Beta Beta and Phi Eta Sigma honor societies, the Pre-Health Club, and Chemistry Club. She used her experience in the sciences to help others as a supplemental instructor for general chemistry and was an Academic Resource Center peer, where she helped tutor other students and then served as a peer manager in her third and fourth years.
At Wartburg, Stetter served his classmates as a supplemental instructor and program student manager, resident assistant, and student area coordinator. He also shared his time as a student representative on a working group developing the college’s next strategic plan and as a member of the Institutional Review Board, the committee responsible for reviewing, approving, and monitoring research involving human subjects.
Stetter also served as president of the Wartburg Psychology Club and Phi Eta Sigma, an honor society that recognizes first-year college students and helps them grow into confident leaders and engaged citizens. He also was an active member of Psi Chi, Alpha Chi, Wartburg MINDS and Ritterchor.
