Nearly 300 tenor and bass singers from across the Midwest will join in a day of singing and voice master classes at the annual RitterSing choral festival at Wartburg College on Saturday, Oct. 3.
The festival, designed to energize the singers and their school music programs, draws middle and high school participants from across the region. Though tickets for the finale concert, which begins at 5 p.m., are sold out, the concert will be livestreamed on Knight Vision at wartburg.edu/knightvision.
The concert will include performances by Wartburg College’s Ritterchor and Festeburg, two festival choruses and The Newfangled Four.
One of the top barbershop quartets in the world, The Newfangled Four combine slapstick humor, quirky comedy and top-notch harmonies to provide audiences with world-class entertainment. Over the years they have developed a reputation for singing and showmanship, as well as their work and involvement in youth outreach as clinicians and educators, leading countless workshops for young singers around the country.
Adam Giebner, vocal music educator with District 196 (Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan) in the South Metro Twin Cities, will direct the Squire’s Festival Chorus (seventh through 10th grade). In addition to teaching, Giebner conducts four curricular ensembles and two co-curricular groups. He is also the director of music ministries at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville.
Lee Nelson, Wartburg’s Patricia R. Zahn Chair in Choral Conducting, will conduct the Knight’s Festival Chorus (ninth grade through adult) as well as Wartburg’s Ritterchor and the combined festival choir.
