Randall Wright ’70

Randall Mark Wright, age 78 of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and formerly of Oskaloosa, Iowa, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids. He was born on December 20, 1947, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Ronald M. and Mary L. (Gould) Wright.

Randy grew up in Villa Park, Illinois, and attended Willowbrook High School, graduating with the Class of 1966. He then furthered his education at Wartburg College earning is B.A. in Communication, until lastly attending the University of Norther Iowa where he earned his Masters in Communication.

On November 27, 1971, he was united in marriage to Vicki Nagel in Waterloo, Iowa. They started their married life in Colo, where he taught English and was the Drama Director before moving to Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Randy taught speech, theater and English at the Oskaloosa High School for 35 years before retiring. During his years at Oskaloosa High School, he started the Story Book Players and was instrumental in getting the George Daily Auditorium built. He was also the director of the George Daily Auditorium for many years. He was a member of the College Avenue of Friends Church in Oskaloosa, the Iowa Presenters Network, Main Street Oskaloosa and the Chamber. Randy enjoyed gardening, traveling, his annual trip to Florida with his children and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki Wright of Cedar Rapids; his children, Ryan Wright of Des Moines, Michelle (Juan) Bannister of Oskaloosa and Matthew (Cordae) Wright of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Jakob Bannister, Klayton Roberts, Keygan Roberts, Kylynne Roberts, Ashton Bannister, Owyn Bannister, Madeline Wright, Maura Wright and Riley Wright and his sister, Candace (John) Palmer.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents.
