Larry Lee Stille, aged 83, was called home by his Savior on March 22nd, 2026, surrounded by his family, at Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Larry was born August 7th, 1942 in Charles City, IA. He was a proud graduate of Wartburg College, graduating with a BA in biology and going on to attend Schoitz Memorial Hospital’s medical technologist training program. He then began thirty-five years of service at St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, IA, rising to become Director of Technical Lab Services, as well as Director of Pharmacy and Radiologic Services.
At St. Luke’s, he met the love of his life, Nancy Berninghaus, and was united to her in marriage on October 26, 1968. After retirement from St. Luke’s, he served for ten years as Camp Okoboji’s Development Director, sharing with others “Jesus at the lake”.
Larry had many talents and enjoyed many hobbies. He wore many hats (literally and figuratively). He was a beloved husband, proud and loving dad and papa, devoted brother, and faithful friend. He was also a talented manager, skilled woodworker, dedicated volunteer, and above all, a man of deep and abiding faith. He took great joy in using these gifts to aid in construction of Camp Okoboji’s Refuge Chapel in 2010. He was most proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, and loved spending time with his family while cheering on the Hawkeyes.
Larry is survived by his wife Nancy of 57 years, sons Chris (Kristine) Stille and Ryan (Jeni) Stille, daughter Jennifer (Kristian) Kincaid, all of Dubuque IA; grandchildren Malachi, Samuel, Isaac, Andrew, Anna, Aiden, Grant, Greyson (Moriah), and Gregor; brothers Kent (Donna) Stille of Indianola IA, and Lane (Marilyn) Stille of George IA; sister Joyce of Eagle Rock MO; sisters in law Patty (Gene) Englin of Emmetsburg IA, Donna (Greg) Vasek of Lincoln NE and brother in law Duane (Sheree) Berninghaus of West Bend IA; as well as many nieces and nephews.
