Jean Victoria Gold Menking, 99, of Alice, TX, peacefully entered the presence of her Creator and Savior on June 19, 2026.
“There’s a new name in heaven, and it’s mine, oh, yes it’s mine!” so sang Jean Victoria Gold Menking as God’s angels joyously carried her into the Presence of her Creator.
Born on August 13, 1926, in Nebraska City, NE, to the Rev. H. C. and Wilhelmina Gold, Jean grew up in Lytton, Iowa. She attended Wartburg College in Waverly, IA, alongside her twin sister during World War II. Completing her lifelong passion for nursing she received an RN with a BS in Nursing from John Sealy Hospital School of Nursing in Galveston, TX. Her father’s Texas roots later brought the family South, where Jean built a wonderful life defined by marriage, the joy of raising her family, and a dedicated nursing career.
Jean’s life was a symphony of faith, music, and service. She shared her immense musical gifts by playing both the organ and piano and directing music and choirs for her ILC Family. Deeply involved in her congregation, she also spent countless hours quilting and participating in church groups, embodying Christ’s love through her creative talents and selfless dedication to others.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister, Joan Victoria Gold; her husband, Alonzo Menking; and her son, Bruce Menking.
Leaving behind only beautiful memories, she is survived by her son, Brian (Ann) Menking of Alice, TX; her daughter, Cynthia (Gordon) Huyser of Tyler, TX; and her daughter-in-law, Virginia (Garcia) Menking of Alice, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Heidi (Ian) Braucksieker, Christopher (Erin) Menking, Aaron (Rachel) Buster, and Ariana McClellan; as well as 10 great-grandchildren and a large, loving extended network of family and friends.
