Alice Marie Vogel, age 89, of Rock Rapids, IA died Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids, IA.
Alice Marie’s story began in Rock Rapids where she was born on June 27, 1937, to George O. and Minnie (Monson) Anderson. She grew up in Rock Rapids alongside siblings Karen and Alan, and graduated from Rock Rapids High School in 1955 among lifelong friends and with her sweetheart and future husband, Arnold Vogel.
After her graduation from Wartburg College, Alice and Arnold married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids on July 13, 1957. Their first years of marriage were spent in England where Arnold served in the United States Air Force and where they made lasting memories that they shared with their family for years to come. Together, they raised three children, Eric, Todd and Paula on the Vogel family farm near Rock Rapids. Alice and Arnold spent over 35 years wintering in Tucson, AZ, where they enjoyed time with many friends and she discovered a hidden talent for bocci ball. At the time of her passing, Alice Marie and Arnold were married just one day shy of 69 years.
Alice was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where she served in various church activities. She was a member and past president of Chapter A1, P.E.O. Throughout her life, Alice was an avid reader and worked at the Rock Rapids Public Library for over 20 years. She enjoyed assisting library users in finding their next favorite book or magazine, helping people discover available library resources, and helping students find information to complete research papers. She instilled a love for reading in her grandchildren Mallory, Ethan, Ashley, Cody, Payton, and Talon by gifting the latest and best books for birthdays and other occasions.
She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Arnold; sons, Eric (Marilee) of Rollingstone, MN, and Todd (Kris) of Hartley; daughter, Paula (Terry) Meyer of Rock Valley; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Karen Menage; brother, Alan (Linda) Anderson; sister-in-law, Gladys Vogel; brother-in-law, Harvey (MaryJo) Vogel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Minnie; parents-in-law, Emil and Lydia Vogel; sister-in-law, Ruth Peters; and brothers-in-law, Elmer Menage and Lester Peters.
