Kylie: My professors genuinely want to know me

Name: Kylie Buchholz
Hometown: Cedar Falls
Major: Elementary Education

What has been your favorite class: I have loved all of my education classes! The professors have genuinely wanted to get to know me as a person, they have provided me with assistance whenever needed, and they have adapted their classes to meet the needs of myself and my classmates. We are constantly up doing activities and applying the content that we have learned to help solidify it in our brains!

What was a transformational experience you had at Wartburg: I was able to travel to Philadelphia to present at a national conference, which was an amazing experience! I learned a ton from the other presenters and was able to interact with other teachers from across the United States.

What advice would you give to new students: My advice for a new student is to remember that your friend group will change throughout your college career. The friends that you enter with will most likely not be the friends that you graduate with, and that is okay! Eventually you will find your group of people.

How would you describe Wartburg in three words: Relationships, supportive, experience

What has been your favorite Wartburg experience: One of my favorite memories from one of my classes was when we convinced my professor to scrap the lesson plans and instead walk to get ice cream with us on Free Cone Day. Surprisingly, she agreed and we took a class trip to get ice cream!

What travel experience did you have while at Wartburg: For May Term 2026 I went to Peru with Dr. Bechtel and it was an incredible experience! I got to work with other Wartburg students and local village members to help build a bat house that will decrease malaria rates in their village. My favorite part was visiting a school in a nearby village and learning about their traditions. The students taught us some of their traditional dances, and we in exchange taught them how to do the Cupid Shuffle!

Any other thoughts you would like to share: Wartburg has incredible staff and faculty who work diligently to create a connection with you. They don’t see you as a number, they see you as a whole person who has a life. The professors at Wartburg truly care about you and want to see you thrive both in the classroom and outside of the classroom!
