MAJORS: Mathematics and actuarial science

ON-CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT: Football, Dance Marathon, TriByKnight

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE WARTBURG: I enjoyed the feeling of being a part of a close-knit community. Wartburg has a great reputation for academics and athletics which also really drew me in.

HOW DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR MAJOR: I love working with numbers. I also read about Wartburg’s rigorous yet successful programs and thought it would be a great fit. I decided to add a second major of mathematics because it would make me more competitive in the work force. I also discovered my love for data analytics while at Wartburg and a mathematics major would allow me to pursue this further. I was able to manage my double major by improving my time management and organizational skills. My adviser, Dr. Brian Birgen also helped me manage my course load.

HOW HAS WARTBURG SET YOU UP FOR SUCCESS IN YOUR FIELD: The professors at Wartburg do a great job of assigning projects and presentations that relate to real-world problems. This helped to build my critical thinking and presentation skills that will be useful in the work force. Wartburg also has several career fairs throughout the school year that allow students to apply to jobs and internships to set them up for success after graduation.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AFTER GRADUATION: I have accepted a business analyst position at Martin Bros. Distributing Co. in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

HOW HAS WARTBURG HELPED YOU MANAGE YOUR INVOLVEMENT IN SPORTS, ACTIVITIES, AND ACADEMICS: Wartburg College is very adamant about helping its students succeed in whatever it is they are doing. The coaches and professors are very understanding when either one has a conflict. The football team also has study tables that allow student athletes to work on their schoolwork at a designated time throughout the week. Having these tools for time management allows students to get involved in other activities around campus.

WHY DID YOU GET INVOLVED IN DANCE MARATHON:  I became involved in WCDM after a family member was a patient at Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City. I wanted to give back to this outstanding organization by raising money for them. I also had a roommate who was an ambassador, so that made it really easy to get involved. It was a great experience and seeing the struggles that these families face made me realize to never take anything for granted. I was also able to give support to an organization that helps so many families every day.

WHY IS WARTBURG WORTH IT: Wartburg is worth it because of the vast number of services and opportunities that allow their students to succeed during and after their time here at Wartburg. I would like to thank everyone at Wartburg for the lifelong memories and friendships!
