Wartburg College has been selected as a Military Friendly School for 2026-27, earning a silver distinction. The college also received the 2026-27 Military Friendly Spouse School designation.
The Military Friendly® Schools list sets the standard for higher education institutions to provide the best opportunities for veterans and their spouses. This prestigious list provides a comprehensive guide for veterans and their families using data sources from federal agencies, veteran students and proprietary survey information from participating organizations.
Wartburg is part of the federal Yellow Ribbon Program, which provides tuition assistance to veterans. The college provides financial aid for any unmet tuition needs. Wartburg is dedicated to offering comprehensive guidance and support for students’ academic, personal and professional goals and can tailor its services specifically for National Guard members and veterans.
The college also partners with Retrieving Freedom Inc., an organization that trains service dogs for military personnel with post-traumatic stress disorder. The collaboration started in the social work department and now also involves Wartburg’s Institute for Leadership Education.
“Earning the Military Friendly designation is more than a badge of honor; it is a reflection of an institution’s deep-rooted values and strategic commitment to those who served. These schools don’t just open doors for veterans and military spouses, they build sustainable pathways for academic success and long-term impact,” said Kayla Lopez, vice president of memberships at Military Friendly. “Their support is transformative, proving that investing in military-connected students is both a moral imperative and a standard for educational excellence.”
More than 3,200 schools participated in the 2026-27 survey, with 878 schools earning the distinction, according to the 2026-27 Military Friendly Schools Data Snapshot.
Schools on the list exhibit leading practices in recruitment and retention and have programs and policies supporting those who served.
The 2026-27 Military Friendly® Schools list will be published in the April issue of G.I. Jobs magazine. The full list can be found at www.militaryfriendly.com.
