Wartburg College faculty receive tenure, promotion, emeritus status

The Wartburg College Board of Regents has approved tenure and promotion for three professors. Three additional professors were approved for promotion and three were awarded emeritus status.

Those awarded tenure and promotion to associate professor are: 

  • Barbara Ashton, assistant professor of music therapy. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Arizona, Tucson, and then did her music therapy training at Arizona State University in Tempe.  
  • Mel Gonnerman, assistant professor of business administration. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa and his master’s and doctorate from Northern Illinois University.
  • Abbylynn Helgevold, assistant professor of religion. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University and a doctorate from the University of Iowa.

Michael Bechtel, science education; Rachel Clark, English; and Terry Letsche, computer science, will be promoted to full professors in September. They are already tenured.

Those awarded emeritus status are:

  • Terrence Lindell, professor of history.
  • David McCullough, the Dr. Myrle Burk and Vera Burk Will Endowed Chair in Interdisciplinary and Environmental Studies.
  • Richard Snyder, associate professor of education.
