These guidelines help us maintain a clean, respectful, and supportive space where everyone can focus on their health and wellness goals. The W Policies
Children (age 6 months to 7 years) of members may stay in the child care area for up to 75 minutes while a parent or guardian is at the center. All workers are certified for adult/child/infant CPR AED, first aid, and blood-borne pathogens.
Member/Guest Child Supervision Policy
An adult (over 18) is limited to two paying guests (or members) who are under 12 years old. Children ages 12-17 may bring one paying guest (or member) who is under 12 years old. They must accompany their guest at all times and understand that they are responsible for their guest’s actions. Any groups of 10 or more must register as a party. Pool Supervision
Children 5 and under must be within arm’s reach of a supervising adult whenever they are in or around the water, with one adult for every child. An adult or patron 12 or older (in appropriate swim attire) must accompany all 6- and 7-year-olds in the water. If a minor is supervising the child in the water, an adult must be in The W. One adult in the water can supervise up to four children. Children 8 to 12 may be in the pool area alone, but a parent or guardian must be in The W. A parent or guardian must check the minor in with the lifeguard prior to leaving the pool area. Children left unsupervised will be dismissed along with the person responsible for their supervision.
No one under 14 is allowed to use the sauna or steam room. The sauna and steam room are kept between 170 and 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Due to high temperatures, the sauna may be dangerous to your health. We recommend that you consult your physician before you use the sauna. Those with medical conditions (listed below) should avoid exposure to high heat.
- The sauna/steam room is only open during natatorium hours.
- Limit your use of the spa to 10 minutes; long exposure may result in nausea, dizziness, or fainting.
- Allow yourself at least 5 minutes after exercising to cool down before entering.
- A lifeguard must be on duty to use the sauna/steam room.
- Do not go from sauna/steam room to spa or spa to sauna/steam room.
- After leaving the sauna/steam room, you must take a shower before entering the pool.
- Appropriate attire — swimsuit, gym shorts, or sports bra — is required.
- Athletic shoes, socks, sweatshirts and/or sweatpants are prohibited.
- Tampering with sauna/steam room controls is strictly prohibited.
Prohibited items include:
- Food or drink
- Lying down, strenuous exercise, or aerobic activities such as push-ups, sit-ups, or jumping rope
- Essential oils (peppermint, menthol, etc.) or like products
- Soap, shampoo, or conditioner.
- Shaving.
Individuals with the following should NOT use the sauna:
- Heart disease
- Diabetes
- High or low blood pressure
- Circulatory problems
- Respiratory problems
- Seizures
- Epilepsy
- Pregnancy
- Certain prescription medications
- Those under the influence of alcohol and/or illegal drugs
No one under 3 is allowed to use the spa/hot tub. Children between the ages of 4 and 14 must be accompanied by an adult. The spa temperature is kept between 100 and 103 degrees Fahrenheit. Due to high temperatures, the spa may be dangerous to your health. We recommend that you consult your physician before you use the spa. Those with certain medical conditions (listed below) should avoid exposure to high heat.
- The spa/hot tub is only open when the natatorium is open with a lifeguard on duty.
- Shower before entering the spa.
- No diving, jumping, or submerging one’s face while using the spa.
- Limit your use of the spa to 10 minutes; long exposure may result in nausea, dizziness, or fainting.
- Sleeping or exercising are not permitted in the spa.
- Pregnant women should have doctor approval before using the spa.
Prohibited items include:
- Body lotions, oils, or sun tan lotions.
- Submerging to the bottom of the spa.
Individuals with the following should NOT use the sauna:

- Pregnancy

Upon registering for any Community Recreation program or activity, it is assumed that in the case of a parent or guardian’s absence or unavailability, The W staff is authorized to arrange whatever medical treatment is considered necessary for the minor child enrolled in the activity. If a parent/guardian does not wish to authorize The W staff to arrange for medical treatment, a revocation of permission form must be filed with The W.
Attendance at Wartburg College programs and events constitutes consent to be photographed/videotaped for use in print and/or electronic publicity. To ensure the privacy of individuals and children, images will not be identified using full names or personal identifying information without written approval from the photographed subject, parent, or legal guardian. If you do not want us to use a photo or video of you or your child, please tell a Wartburg employee coordinating the event before the program or event.
To keep things fair to all participants, each withdrawal from a program will be assessed a $5 processing fee whether a refund check is issued or credit is put on account. There will be no transfers. Any changes will be treated as a refund, and participants must re-register for the desired class.
No refunds will be given following the registration deadline. If a deadline date is not indicated, it will be seven calendar days prior to the program start date.
If a medical problem arises during the activity/class, a physician’s written excuse must be presented stating that participation is restricted. In the case of a medical excuse, a percentage of whatever class time remains will be refunded.
If the program/activity is canceled by The W, you will have the choice of having a full refund issued to your account or a refund check issued to the person who paid for the enrollment.
Racquetball Courts
Racquetball court reservations can be made 48 hours in advance in person at the Welcome Desk or by calling 352-8311. We do not accept standing reservations. We only accept one reservation per day, per participant (reservations for 1 hour only). When making a reservation, you must give the name of both people who are playing. Reservations can be made on the hour for an hour (i.e. 3-4 p.m., etc.). Participants have 10 minutes to claim their reserved court, after which it becomes first-come, first-served. Unreserved courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Courts must be vacated at the end of your reservation if others are waiting. You are not allowed to finish the game you are playing.
Tennis Courts
Members may reserve a tennis court for one hour at a time. Members with guests playing may reserve tennis courts for 1 hour, their guests would need to pay a guest pass. No other court fee is required. Members with guests playing for more than 1 hour, the second or third hour would have a $20 court fee/hour. Guests only playing tennis will pay a guest fee plus the $20 court fee per hour.
Pickleball Courts
Pickleball courts are available Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-noon, and when there is availability in the facility. Soft-sole tennis shoes must be worn at all times, and adults must accompany any children under the age of 12. Pickleball paddles are available for use at the Welcome Desk. Guests will be charged a $5 drop-in fee to use the court.
The W will open the pool early (3 p.m.) and have the field house open for official school weather cancellations Nov. 28-Dec. 14 and Jan. 7-March 29. Cost is $5 for guests.
