Alexander Meszler, a faculty member and organist at Luther College, will be the featured artist at Wartburg College’s Bach’s Lunch organ recital series Friday, Nov. 6.

A free lecture will begin at noon in the Wartburg Chapel Commons, followed by the recital at 12:30 p.m. in the Wartburg Chapel sanctuary.

Meszler’s recital will include pieces by Josef Rheinberger, Dieterich Buxtehude and Margaret Shelton Meier.

Dedicated to interdisciplinary performance and research, Meszler aims to inspire new perspectives on the organ and its capabilities both within and beyond the liturgy. In 2023, he performed John Cage’s “Organ2/ASLSP (As Slow as Possible)” nonstop for 24 hours, setting the record for the longest performance of the work given by a single organist on a pipe organ.

Meszler also spent a year in Versailles, France, as a Fulbright recipient researching secularism and the organ and studying with Jean-Baptiste Robin at the Conservatoire a Rayonnement Regional de Versailles. He currently serves as the chair of the American Guild of Organists’ Committee on New Music, which advocates for new music by living composers.

The series will continue in 2027 on Feb. 12, March 5 and April 9.
