Nathan Proctor, organist and director of worship, music and arts at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield, Minn., will be the featured artist at Wartburg College’s Bach’s Lunch organ series recital on Friday, March 13.
A free lecture will begin at noon in the Wartburg Chapel Commons, followed by a recital at 12:30 p.m. in the Wartburg Chapel sanctuary.
Proctor will play Bach’s Orgelbüchlein hymns and chorale-preludes for Lent, which will be interspersed with poems by the Rev. John Thornburg, who wrote them as responses to the text and music of the chorales.
Proctor holds degrees in church music and organ performance from St. Olaf College and Indiana University, having studied with John Ferguson and Larry Smith. He has served congregations in Minnesota, California and North Carolina. In addition to overseeing a large music program at St. John’s, each week he leads worship at the organ and directs choirs of children and adults. He also serves as the collaborative pianist for the choral program at Carleton College. The 2025-26 series will conclude on April 10.
