Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling, University of Northern Iowa
Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

Stephanie has worked at Wartburg College since 1999. Her therapeutic approach centers on utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The basic premise of CBT is that emotions are difficult to change directly, so CBT targets emotions by changing thoughts and behaviors that are contributing to the distressing emotions. CBT builds a set of skills that enables an individual to be aware of thoughts and emotions; identify how situations, thoughts, and behaviors influence emotions; and improve feelings by changing dysfunctional thoughts and behaviors. The guiding principle of her practice is to help clients develop and learn practical, real-world strategies and skills that allow them to change ineffective behaviors and thus build the kind of life they want to live.

Outside of work, she enjoys watching her boys play football, traveling, tennis, and walks around the river.
