Kylie T. Gougler

Visiting Assistant Professor of Voice

Heralded by D Magazine as “continually captivating, sensitive, and vocally magnificent,” soprano Dr. Kylie T. Gougler has appeared in operatic roles such as Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Mařenka (The Bartered Bride), the Governess (The Turn of the Screw), and the title role in Suor Angelica.

Dr. Gougler currently serves as Visiting Assistant Professor of Voice at Wartburg College, where she teaches applied voice, Diction, vocal pedagogy, and vocal methods. She has also served on the voice faculties of Luther College, Clarke University, and Waldorf University.

A devoted advocate for Czech opera and art song for more than 15 years, Dr. Gougler has performed both nationally and internationally. As a young artist, Dr. Gougler won the American semifinals of the Czech and Slovak International Voice Competition in 2011, representing the United States in the international finals in Montreal, Quebec. Today, she serves as co-director of the American International Czech and Slovak Voice Competition at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay, which attracts more than 20 singers from around the world each year. Dr. Gougler has published three anthologies of Czech operatic literature — Czech Arias for Soprano: An Anthology, Czech Arias for Tenor: An Anthology, and Czech Arias for Baritone/Bass: An Anthology — all available through Classical Vocal Reprints. She collaborates closely with the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library (NCSML) and the Czech Consulate General in Chicago on special musical projects, and is currently writing a book on Czech art song literature. Dr. Gougler is also the founder of The Czech Art Song Initiative, a project dedicated to promoting the performance and study of Czech art song in America.

She is the recipient of the 2020 NATS Emerging Leader Award.

Dr. Gougler holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in vocal performance and pedagogy from the University of Iowa, a Master of Music in vocal performance from the University of North Texas, and a Bachelor of Arts in music from Luther College.
