Timothy Robert “Tim” Pace

1954 – 2025

Timothy “Tim” Robert Pace, 70, passed away June 9 in Independence, Missouri. A gathering to celebrate his life was held on June 24 at Crown Point Church in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

Tim was born in Waverly on December 21, 1954, to Maurice “Pat” and Bernita (Volk) Pace. He graduated from Waverly-Shell Rock High School in 1973 and from Wartburg College in 1977.

After graduation, Tim moved to Topeka, Kansas, where he managed a Happy Joe’s Pizza restaurant, the beginning of a long career in the pizza business. After a few years, he moved to Independence, Missouri, where he managed the Happy Joe’s in the Blue Ridge Mall. With his brother Steve, Tim opened Tim’s Pizza in Independence on December 31, 1987, where together they focused on building the business, establishing relationships with their customers, and generously supporting their community, especially youth sports programs, animal rescue and shelters, and the local police and fire departments. He was a loyal fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals ball teams.

Tim is survived by his siblings, Mike (Carol Joy) Pace of Sparta, Wisconsin; Ann (Ken) Opatz of Lisbon, Iowa; Carol (Bob) Connolly of Johnston, Iowa; Dave (Karen) Pace of Blue Springs, Missouri; sister-in-law Sherry Pace of Forest City, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and their families; and his ex-wife Mary and her children Shawn, Chris, and Nick O’Dowd.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Joe Pace and Steve Pace.
