Sylvester Henry Van Hove

Sylvester Henry Van Hove was born May 5, 1932, in rural Titonka, Iowa, the son of Ted and Bina (Tjaden) Van Hove. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Titonka High School in 1950. He graduated from St. Louis College of Mortuary Science in St. Louis, Missouri, in June 1954. After Mortuary school, he attended Wartburg College.
On January 18, 1958, Sylvester was united in marriage to Wanda L. Mueller in Waverly, Iowa. They lived in Waverly until moving to Dows, Iowa, where they purchased their first funeral home in 1959. He expanded his funeral business to Latimer, Iowa. They sold the Funeral Homes in June of 1968 when they moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa, and purchased the Dahl Funeral Home. Sylvester continued what he loved and served hundreds of families in the Cedar Valley until he sold the Funeral Home and retired in March 2019.
Sylvester loved serving others, but he always put his family first. His other interests included antiques and his beautiful flower garden.
Sylvester died Saturday, October 12, 2024, in Minnetonka, Minnesota, at 92. He is survived by his wife, Wanda of Cedar Falls, Iowa; daughters Lori Van Hove of San Juan Capistrano, California; and Lynelle (Ron) Roetzel of Minnetrista, Minnesota; Grandson, Benjamin (Tara) Ness and children, Bianca, Graham, and Naomi, Chaska, Minnesota; Grandson Daniel Stahlhut, Golden Valley, Minnesota; and Granddaughter Lydia Stahlhut, Minnetrista, Minnesota. Also surviving is his sister, Caroline Stenzel of Iowa Falls, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and three sisters.
