Oscar Ray “Ozzie” Scofield, 84, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on April 1, 1941, Ozzie was the son of the late Ray F. Scofield and Marion Kalman Scofield. A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, he embraced adventure on the open road and earned several prestigious “Iron Butt” endurance and distance awards.
Ozzie’s professional life was equally distinguished. After graduating from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, he went on to earn his Master of Business Administration there as well. His career in the reinsurance industry was marked by dedication and achievement, culminating in his recognition as one of the first recipients of the “Legacy of Reinsurance Man of the Year.”
His love for Wartburg College remained steadfast throughout his life. Ozzie faithfully served on the Wartburg College Board of Regents for 21 years, chairing the Commission Wartburg Task Force on Marketing and College Relations—a role that helped shape the Commission Wartburg Campaign and strengthen the college’s future.
Above all, Ozzie’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann Scofield; children Paul Davis Scofield and Heather Fulghum, Joshua Charles Scofield and Mariella Scofield, Ella Sue Weber and PJ Weber, and Leslie Bishop and Willie Bishop; grandchildren Martin, Gabriella, Luke, Sarah, Jessica, and Reed; and great-granddaughter Kinsley Elizabeth. He also leaves behind his brother Ray Scofield and wife Pat, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear family friend Ruth Pitts.
Ozzie will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, professional integrity, devotion to education, and unwavering love for his family. His life was a journey well traveled, and his legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.
