Eleanor Schlueter Arneson ’53

Eleanor E. Arneson, age 95, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, in Mount Horeb. She was born on October 5, 1930, in Oconomowoc, Wis., the daughter of the Rev. Roland and Anna (Herbener) Schlueter.

Eleanor graduated from Monona High School in Monona, Iowa, where she was a basketball star. Following high school, she attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Eleanor was united in marriage to Dale K. Arneson on February 20, 1955, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa.

Over the years, Eleanor worked as a homemaker and daycare provider, and at the Cave of the Mounds and Lands’ End.

She was a member of the Song of Norway where she played Mother Grieg, a member of the Homemaker’s Club and Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was active in many roles. She was a founding member of the Mount Horeb Chorale where she had an opportunity to travel internationally. Eleanor volunteered at the Mount Horeb Chamber of Commerce and the Mount Horeb Area Historical Society. In her free time, she enjoyed singing, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint and spending time with her family. She enjoyed cheering on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren during all of their activities.

Eleanor is survived by her children, Craig (Cindy) Arneson, Rayne (Michael Losenegger) Arneson, Shelley (David) Lee, Kim (Keith) O’Connell, Kent Arneson and Troy (Amy) Arneson; 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; parents; brother, the Rev. Arnold Schuelter; and sisters, Margaret Dettmann and Ruth Hughes.
