Elaine R. Wedemeier, 90, of Maynard and formerly of Westgate, Iowa, died peacefully Thursday morning, February 6, 2025, at Hillcrest Assisted Living in Sumner, Iowa.
Elaine Rose Wedemeier, daughter of John and Lydia (Sell) Knoploh, was born February 17, 1934. She was baptized on March 4, 1934, and confirmed on March 30, 1947, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Buck Creek, Sumner. She attended St. John’s Parochial School rural Sumner and graduated from Sumner High School in 1951. She then attended Wartburg College and graduated with a teaching degree. Elaine was united in marriage to Duane W. Wedemeier on October 4, 1953. They lived in the Westgate area and farmed side by side until his death on December 26, 1999. She moved to Maynard in October 2000. Elaine was very active at St. Peter’s Church. She had many jobs including teaching preschool and later subbing at West Central Schools; children were one of her many loves. Elaine was a charter member of the West Central Foundation Trust Board. Elaine’s most important love was her family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with them and attending their many activities. She also loved playing cards, especially Schafkopf, reading, and dancing with family and friends. Left to mourn are 5 children, 2 sons: Gary (Becky) Wedemeier and Kevin (Kenda) Wedemeier both of Westgate, 3 daughters: Vickie (James) Bushkofsky of Sheffield, Karla (Doug) Suckow of Fredericksburg, and Kristie (Paul) Lockard of Maynard; 14 grandchildren: Dawn (Jason) Guritz, Jeni (Cory) Kamoss, Chad (Tracie) Bushkofsky, Scott (Catherine) Wedemeier, Travis (Jeannie) Suckow, Amber Suckow, Amy (Jeremy) Swanson, Wendy (Clayton) Miller, Rachel (Jamie) Grimm, Neil (Jena) Suckow, Jeremy (Kayla) Lockard, Abby (Matt) Danner, Darin (Kendra) Lockard and Tyler (Samantha) Wedemeier; 36 great grandchildren; 1 brother: Eldon (Jean) Knoploh of Oelwein; 1 Sister: Velda (James) Hagenow of Waverly, 2 sisters-in-law: Verlaine Knoploh of Sumner and Bev Knoploh of Faribault, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Duane; 3 brothers: Marvin Knoploh, Lloyd Knoploh, Henry (Virginia) Knoploh; and 1 sister: Dorothy (Raymond) Brickman; and 3 nephews: Ron, Jeff and Mitch.
