Dennis Strempke ’74

Dennis R. Strempke, 72, formerly of Hudson, IA, and currently living in Laguna Beach, CA quickly and unexpectedly slipped into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ Sunday, May 4, 2025, in Castle Rock, CO, while visiting one of his sons. He was born on August 20, 1952, in Waterloo, Iowa, son of Donald and Alma Dittmer Strempke. Dennis graduated from Dunkerton High School in 1971 and received his B.A. in education from Wartburg College, Waverly, IA in 1975. He was on Wartburg’s Cross Country team.

Dennis married Elizabeth A. Tyrrell on December 1, 1984, at St. John’s Lutheran Church Bennington, Waterloo, IA. Dennis was a teacher and coach at Hudson Community Schools for 33 years, retiring in 2008. He continued his teaching and coaching career in Fort Morgan, CO and Verrado, AZ until retiring a second time. Dennis finished his career, substitute teaching in Summit County, Colorado until 2023 before he officially retired from education.

A man of integrity, Dennis was a member of Oceans Church in Irvine, CA. His favorite volunteer opportunities were for the Baptize California church events. Spending time with his family was most important to Dennis. He enjoyed supporting his son’s professional AMA motocross/supercross team and shooting range days with his sons. Dennis was an avid Packers fan and New York Yankees fan, and his daily routines included gardening and walking his Yorkie, Jack.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Strempke of Laguna Beach, CA; two sons; Matthew (Paige) Strempke of Castle Rock, CO and Mark Strempke of Laguna Beach, CA; mother-in-law; Diane Tyrrell of North English, IA; four siblings, David (Cathy) Strempke of Kings Mountain, NC, Duane (Karen Rae) Strempke of Ankeny, IA, Karen (Jim) Post of Titonka, IA, and Daniel (Anne) Strempke of Olathe, KS; three sisters-in-law, Margaret (Bill) Davis of Marengo, IA, Sheila (Tim) Knebel of Anthem, AZ, and Mary (Mark) McCullough of Deep River, IA; three brothers-in-law, Tim (Teresa) Tyrrell of Bradenton, FL, Patrick (Stacey) Tyrrell of St. Louis, MO, and John (Kelli) Tyrrell of Houston, TX; and 24 nieces and nephews.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; Donald and Alma Strempke of Dunkerton, Iowa; father-in-law The Honorable Phillip Tyrrell of North English, IA; and infant brother, Donald J. Strempke, Jr.
