Arthur C. Frick II, 101, of Waverly died on March 10, 2025, at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly.
Arthur Charles Frick was born on October 15,1923, the son of Arthur Clement and Nola Ann (Mangum) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was baptized in 1923 and confirmed in 1935, both at the 1st Methodist Episcopal Church in Milwaukee. Arthur graduated from. He served with the US Army Air Corps in the Pacific theater from October 22,1942 until his discharge in January 27,1946. He furthered his studies at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee until 1948 , University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1949 and from 1950 until 1951, at the Escuela De Pinturay in Escultura, Mexico followed by Art Students League in New York City. Arthur worked as a full Professor at the American University in Beirut, Lebanon from 1956 until 1976. On June 7, 1968, he was united in marriage to Aida Moukheiber in Iowa City. From 1976 until 1994 he served as a Professor Emeritus at Wartburg College.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly, served as President of the League of Milwaukee Artists, the British School of Archeology, Surveyor – Draughtsman, in Jerusalem, Jordan and was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. Arthur enjoyed sailing, Philosophy, World affairs and poetry.
Arthur Frick was an exceptional and remarkable man whose presence left a lasting impact on everyone he met. He was remembered as “awesome,” with a “warm and charming smile,” and “an exceptional man.” His charisma and kindness were unforgettable, drawing people to him with his infectious smile, laugh, and genuine focus on others.
Arthur was always curious about the world around him, constantly observing and marveling at both the grand and the minute. Ever contemplating potential subjects for his art, his hands and fingers framed this beautiful world around him. Music brought him immense joy, from classical to rock, to folk, and enjoyed sharing these experiences, whether blasting music in his car or taking his family and friends to concerts.
An eternal learner and walking encyclopedia, Arthur’s vast knowledge and deep curiosity were admired by all. He was a mentor, teacher, and friend, deeply valuing the relationships he formed.
Despite aging, he maintained an active spirit, humorously noting, “Inside I feel I am still in my late 20’s, my damn body tells me otherwise.” Arthur’s legacy lives on in the many lives he touched. His warmth, curiosity, and passion for life will never be forgotten. His passing leaves a profound void, but his influence will be felt forever in all of us.
Survivors are his wife, Aida of Waverly; son, Arthur J. F. Frick of San Diego, California; daughters, Sumaya Frick of Tucson, Arizona, Nola A Gargour of Beirut, Lebanon and Delia A. Frick of Waverly; and five grandchildren, Arthur Andrew, Lucien, Thalissa, Alessandra, and Isabella. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur Clement and Nola Ann, and brother Frederick Ferdinand.
