Name: Lydia Miller

Major: Graphic Design and Public Relations
Graduation Year: 2027
Campus Involvement: Tennis Team, Tower Agency, and Lacrosse Club

What school did you transfer from and why: I transferred from Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana, because I was seeking a school where religion and spiritual life were encouraged but not required. I was also excited to go to a school farther away from home.

Who at Wartburg made the transfer process easier: MaTina was a great resource during my transfer process; she was there to answer any questions I had, which was very helpful and reassuring! When I arrived at Wartburg, my tennis team also quickly helped me integrate into the community. It has been great to be on a team with supportive individuals; it feels like a family!

Why did you choose Wartburg: I chose Wartburg because of all the opportunities available to me, from different majors, to ways to get involved on campus, to being an athletically dominant school — it felt like a perfect fit.

What was it like to transfer to Wartburg from another state: At first it seemed intimidating, but I quickly adjusted. I have been fortunate that many people have recognized I am from out of state and do not have family nearby, and they’ve gone out of their way to support and help me. The community is very welcoming and supportive.

How has your experience at Wartburg exceeded your expectations: My experience at Wartburg has exceeded my expectations because of the sense of belonging. Faculty, staff, and students have not only encouraged me academically but also supported me personally. That level of connection and care is something I did not anticipate, but it has shaped my experience in the best way.

How did you navigate transitioning to playing a collegiate sport at a new institution: I approached my athletic transition with an open mindset, and it took adjustments going from NAIA to Division III tennis. My main focus was building relationships with my teammates and coaches right away, and that made the shift much smoother. I also made it a priority to stay disciplined with my time management. Overall, I embraced the differences as an opportunity to grow as a teammate and player

What opportunities has Wartburg provided you academically: Wartburg has provided me with incredible academic opportunities as a graphic design and public relations major. I’ve been able to connect with alumni who are working in the fields I’m pursuing, and those networking experiences have given me valuable insight and guidance. Wartburg also offers so many ways to get involved in campus organizations related to my majors, which has allowed me to apply what I’m learning in the classroom to real projects and experiences. Those opportunities have really helped me grow my skills and confidence as I prepare for my career.
