What school did you transfer from and why: I transferred from Iowa State after one semester. I found that Iowa State was too big for me to feel seen and heard; I felt more like a number than a person at the end of the day.
Who at Wartburg made the transfer process easier: MaTina Clark! I cannot express how grateful I am for her work as my transfer adviser. She made the entire process so smooth for me. As I was still a full-time student, my time was often spent studying and doing other academic-related things. MaTina never made me feel overwhelmed or like I was making a rushed or wrong decision. She helped me learn all the little quirks and traditions that make Wartburg so unique. Other than her, so many other students in my major helped me integrate and understand what was expected of Wartburg students.
Why did you choose Wartburg: I had always been around Wartburg for music festivals in high school. Originally, I didn’t want to attend Wartburg because I thought it was “too close to home.” However, I came to realize that I wanted a place that felt like its own little community. I wanted a place where all my professors would know me by name. I wanted a home where I could feel supported. Wartburg gave that to me and so much more.
How has music been an important part of your transfer journey: Looking at Wartburg, I knew the importance of music here. Back at Iowa State, I was in an auditioned ensemble, and I was adamant about continuing my music journey here. Coming to Wartburg, I had my heart set on traveling with a choir and getting to sing in breathtaking cathedrals overseas. As a transfer student, being in an ensemble upon arrival allowed me to make unique connections with people that I just couldn’t find in the classroom. The Wartburg music department welcomed me with open arms and gave me a family when I was still adjusting to life at Wartburg.
How has being involved in The Wartburg Choir impacted your Wartburg journey: Making it into Wartburg Choir felt like my entire life at Wartburg clicked into place. I found my family and some of my best friends. The choir turned into something more than music; it was a place for me to relax and share my life concerns without fear of being judged. No one ever made me feel excluded, which was something I repeatedly felt while at Iowa State. I can never express how truly thankful and lucky I am to be given a spot in the Wartburg Choir.
What is something you are most excited about this year: I am so excited for the Wartburg Choir international tour this upcoming May Term! The choir is traveling to Germany, France, Spain, and Morocco for about three weeks.
