Why did you choose Wartburg?
I chose Wartburg because it felt like I was at home. The campus environment made it easy for me to picture myself spending my next years here. Everyone at Wartburg was so welcoming, and the sense of community stood out to me. I was drawn to the college’s strong reputation for both academics and athletics. It was important to me to be at a place that held high standards, so I would be pushed to excel in the classroom and compete at a high level in athletics.
What sparked your interest in your field of study, and how has your perspective on it changed since your first year?
I chose to pursue a degree in exercise science because I had always known I wanted to be in a science-related field. The newer exercise science program sparked my interest and helped me solidify my decision on Wartburg. Once I began classes, I absolutely loved the curriculum, professors, and field of study. In my first year, I was still unsure about the specific path I wanted to take within the field. After such great experiences and support, I knew I was in the right place and on the right path for a future career in physical therapy.
Is there a faculty or staff member who made a significant impact on your journey? What is the best piece of advice they gave you?
The professors in exercise science had a tremendous impact on my time at Wartburg. They were always available to answer questions, offer guidance, and help me think through my future path. Their support went beyond the classroom as they were also research mentors, advisers, and internship supervisors. They helped shape my time at Wartburg into such great experiences.
What is the one thing you never imagined you would/could do before coming to Wartburg?
Before coming to Wartburg, I never imagined I would build such meaningful relationships. When I visited, someone told me that you wouldn’t find people anywhere else like you do here. After my time here, I completely agree with them. I truly have made lasting friendships, built strong relationships, and been mentored by some of the best. Those connections have had a lasting impact on me and are what I will carry with me long after my time at Wartburg.
What advice do you have for prospective or first-year students?
Get involved early and take advantage of all the opportunities Wartburg provides. Being involved in different areas helped me to meet new people, discover what interested me, and grow in many ways. Wartburg offers a wide range of experiences from athletics, arts, clubs, research, volunteering, and work opportunities. Getting involved enhanced my college experience and helped me make the most out of my time here.
