Academic success leads to new career in hometown

Carson Rygh ’24 came to Wartburg four years ago to study accounting and run cross country and track. Following graduation, he returned to his hometown in Lake Mills, Iowa, to begin his career as an accounting associate at Winnebago Cooperative Telecom Association.

In between, he kept busy with his studies and athletics, all while also participating in the Symphonic Band and the National Society of Leadership and Success and working as an RA, a welcome desk manager at The W, and a tutor in the Peer Learning Lab in writing and accounting.

“My favorite part of my involvement in activities was the ability to be a leader and continue doing things that I am passionate about,” said Rygh, who was named the Outstanding Senior in Accounting. “I have found that staying busy has helped me excel in my various obligations because it forces me to be intentional with my time.”

Rygh also studied in the United Kingdom, Netherlands, and Germany during May Term 2023 thanks in part to a Gilman International Scholarship.

“It was fast-paced and exciting. I really enjoyed the opportunity to visit new places and experience different cultures,” said Rygh. “I hope all students take the chance to try new things while at Wartburg. Take a chance on an internship to get experience working in your major or a related field. Travel abroad if you can. Get to know people who aren’t in your major, sport, or music group because some of your best friends may turn out to be those you wouldn’t normally talk to.”
