Name: Addy Wells
Hometown: Waterloo, Iowa
Major: Exercise Science
What has been your favorite class: Science Methods. It has been my favorite because of the hands-on learning and different perspective we get to learn about. Dr. Bechtel has also helped me better myself for my future as an educator with real events either in his past or what is going on now in the world.
Why did you choose Wartburg: I chose Wartburg because of the strong sense of community. Every time I visited campus throughout my college search, I felt welcomed and wanted by the admissions counselors, coaches, professors, and students I interacted with. I knew I would be cared for by the community, I knew I would be able to build a strong support system, and I knew I could make a difference on campus.
What advice do you have for new students: Be courageous to try new things and get involved! Twenty seconds of courage can change your life. If I have one regret during my time at Wartburg, it was not taking the leap to get involved in student organizations or attending events I was interested in during my first year. They are the best way to get connected and build relationships with the most wonderful people on campus, and now I can say that my involvements are some of my favorite aspects of my Wartburg experience.
What was your favorite Wartburg experience: My favorite Wartburg experience was hosting the NCAA Softball Tournament Regional at Lynes Field in 2026! It was Wartburg softball’s fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, but earning the opportunity to bring the postseason to our home field and having our entire Wartburg community there cheering us on was an experience I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.
What travel opportunities have you had while at Wartburg: In June 2025, I had the opportunity to travel to Germany and Amsterdam with the Wartburg softball team and our families. We got to explore major cities, go sightseeing, and play softball against local teams in foreign countries! This was my first time traveling outside of the country, and I loved simply experiencing more of what the world has to offer alongside my Wartburg softball family.
Anything else you would like to share: I have loved being a part of Castle Connections throughout all of my four years at Wartburg! It was the best way to get familiar with campus early and have access to a support system already at my disposal. Then, for the past three years, I got to be a Castle Connections Peer Mentor and help other first-year students get introduced to Wartburg and adjust to college life. Our Castle Connections community is so supportive and special, and it will always be dear to me.
