German Studies
Studying German opens doors far beyond language. It connects you to music, film, philosophy, history, science, and more. At Wartburg, you’ll explore fascinating courses (taught in English) like German Film, The Brothers Grimm, and Holocaust Remembrance, diving into big questions about how people understand and shape the world.
A German major or minor fits perfectly with other fields, making it easy to double major and stand out in today’s global job market. Along the way, you’ll gain communication skills, cultural awareness, and a fresh perspective on what it means to be human.
Knowing German doesn’t just give you a language, it gives you access to new ideas, new opportunities, and a richer appreciation of the world around you.
Immerse yourself in German culture.
German Studies at Wartburg College is shaped by international experiences designed to strengthen your language proficiency and immerse you in another culture. This in-depth study of German while abroad will give you insight into how other cultures view the world, as well as a better understanding of American culture. Wartburg students can study abroad for a semester and/or participate in May Term courses in German-speaking Europe. Study abroad experiences often highlight Eisenach, home of the Wartburg Castle. And students have recently spent semesters in Lüneburg and Berlin.

Through the German program at Wartburg, I was able to get to know new people and explore different topics in German which was really exciting. I got the opportunity to go not once, but twice to study abroad in Germany.”
